Why be a Parish Councillor?
Be part of an elected body in the first tier of local government, representing the interests of the community and improving the quality of life and the local environment.
What would I have to do?
You only need to be able to give up one evening every other month to attend Parish Council meetings and keep an eye on your emails in between.
Who can be a Parish Councillor?
Anyone who meets the basic requirements outlined below could be a Parish Councillor.
You don’t need any particular skills, qualifications or experience, and you don’t need to be politically minded. You just need to have an interest in your local community.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and a British citizen or a citizen of the Commonwealth or European Union and must satisfy at least one of the following:
• be a local government elector for the parish that you wish to represent;
• have, during the whole of the previous 12 months, occupied land or other property in the parish, either as owner or tenant;
• have, during the whole of the previous 12 months, had your principal or only place of work in the parish;
• have resided in or within 3 miles of the parish during the whole of the previous 12 months.

The Parish Council normally meets on the second Thursday in January, March, May, July, September and November at 7pm.
Any person interested in becoming a Parish Councillor should contact the Clerk by e-mail camvale@dorset-aptc.gov.uk for more information.
